Twerk!

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Twerk #Twerking

Twerk!  Twerking!  Whatever!

A week or so ago was the first time I had ever heard of twerking.  I kept hearing about Miley Cyrus twerking.  I had to look it up to find out what it was.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the last I heard of twerking!  Since then I have seen someone twerking daily on some television show.

I was supposed to write about my pet peeve today.  Well, my newest pet peeve is twerking.  I just don't see any reason that I should have to see anyone's behind shaking at me.  Many of those doing the twerking do not have the best looking behinds to begin with. It's beyond me why they feel comfortable putting it out there for everyone to see.

My Twerking Research

Apparently, twerking has been around for a while and they actually have songs and music for it.

While researching YouTube to find the video I attached I saw so many eye-opening videos about twerking.  Did you know that people go to public places and video tape themselves twerking. Watch out!  You could be in Wal-Mart and have someone start twerking(shaking their buns) in the bakery department or just shivering their backsides in the frozen food area.

Now if you decide to twerk it is really important to record yourself and put it on YouTube because there are millions of people that want to see you Twerk.  Just don't catch yourself on fire.  Oh, right that one wasn't real.  Jimmy Kimmel faked that one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHdiutY4XqA

I like this video.  Take a few minutes to watch.  It's not very long.

So do you twerk?  Send a video please!  Attach the link to your video in the comments because the world is waiting to see you twerk!

Fried Green Tomatoes

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

Fried Green Tomatoes

Today, I fixed a favorite food for my husband.  He hasn't had any yet this year because of my weigh loss regime.  He came home from work just totally exhausted today and I told him I was fixing chicken and asked him what he wanted with it.  He said, "Fried Green Tomatoes."

I love Fried Green Tomatoes so then I knew that was going to be a problem for me.  Like I said, I haven't made any all summer.  I have tomato plants in my garden.  Well, I told him that I would make some for him.  As I started to fix them, I thought, maybe I can make them without going off my Paleo/Primal diet.

I made them two different ways.  I made regular ones for my husband, and then I made some with coconut flour for me.  They were great!  I wouldn't have them very often since they are friend in oil.  For Paleo, you can use coconut oil to fry them.

Recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes

Green Tomatoes (Very Thinly Sliced)
1 egg
1 T Milk
1/4 C Flour
1/4 C Corn Meal

Salt
Pepper

Oil for frying the tomatoes

Directions:

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

I start by slicing the tomatoes as thin as I can slice them.  Some people may like them thicker, but we prefer them very thin.  I can get 20 slices from an average size tomato.

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

Take an egg and add 1 T milk and mix it together to dip the tomatoes in.  Depending on how many tomatoes you are cooking you may need to make more of the mixture.

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

I make a mixture of the flour and corn meal.  If you like you can add salt and pepper to the mixture or you can salt and pepper them individually after you have battered them.  You just need to salt and pepper them according to how much you like to use.

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

Next, heat oil in a large skillet.  Normally, I use canola oil.  Heat over medium heat.

Fried Green Tomatoes #FriedGreenTomatoes #Tomatoes

Once the oil is hot you dip a tomato slice into the egg mixture and then into the flour mixture.  Put into the skillet to fry.  Turn the tomatoes occasionally.  Once they are nicely browned and crispy put them on a paper towel lined plate to soak up any excess oil.

They are all ready to eat.  Enjoy!!!

Since I am eating Paleo/Primal I used coconut flour to batter my tomatoes.  I also fried them in coconut oil.

I have found that the coconut flour has a little sweet taste but I liked in with the tomatoes.

If you have never had Fried Green Tomatoes you should try them!

Chores, Chores, Chores

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Chores, Chores, Chores

Chores #laundry #towels #sheets

Don't you just love the smell of fresh linens?  I like to pull the warm sheets and towels from the dryer and smell the fresh smell.  That is probably why washing the linens is my favorite chore.  I could wash sheets and towels every day.  I think the whole house smells better when you have fresh linens.

Another favorite chore is cutting the weeds around my yard.  Of course, that is a part of my gardening, which I love!

I am not crazy about mopping the kitchen floor.  My floor is a dark walnut wood and it shows every spot.  I need to clean it constantly. My dog goes in and out the back door so she has to walk on the floor when she comes in.  My floor is beautiful when it doesn't have any spots on it.  Rainy days and snowy days are bad because she tracks water in all day and spots it every time she walks across it.  I need to teach her how to wipe her paws!

Which chores are your most and least favorite?

Fat

The picture shows one pound of fat.  I have now lost 32 1/2 of those.  I really think that is something to celebrate.  I got on the scales this morning and was unhappy about losing 1/2 pound this week.  I have been losing a pound of weight a week for a while and losing only half of that was a disappointment.

When I gave it more thought I decided there is no way that I can be disappointed.  I am at Week 30 and have lost 32 1/2 pounds. Today I put on a pair of size 6 shorts.  I am 2 1/2 pounds from my healthy BMI range.  So I am slighty overweight according to the BMI Calculator.

When I started out I was in the Obese range.  Just slightly into it, but still into the Obese range.  I hate having to say the word obese. Slightly overweight sounds better, but healthy sounds fantastic!  I'm almost there.  It may take a few more weeks but I am getting there, come hell or high water!!

Kettle Bell Workout Routines

Kettle Bell Workout Routines

Workout Routines

I have been having issues trying to figure out how to exercise on the days I don't go to the gym.  I have thought about getting a place, the church or the library, and just getting a group of women together to exercise with the P90X program.  I spoke to someone about it today and I am still working on that idea.

I feel that would be a strong motivation for me to get a strong routine going and help other people to get in shape at the same time.   If I were close enough to the gym I would love to go there everyday, but with the distance and time involved and the cost of gas, I just can't do it.  So I have to have another option.

I have the P90X program, I just can't seem to get started on it by myself.  I don't know if it just seems too difficult or too compicated or something.

Today I was shopping and I found something on the clearance table at Meijer.  I had never seen this program before, but it sounds interesting.  It is KettleWorX.  It looks like a good program for me to really get started with.  It seems simple, yet something that could be really effective.  It says you do the program 20 minutes 3 times per week.  I could always increase it to 40 or more minutes.   And the best thing is I only paid $20.00 for the program.  I am excited about starting the program tomorrow.

Have any of you used this program?

After I do my first workout with it I will post and let you know what I think.

European Countries

I love European Countries

European Countries

What would be your dream vacation?  How about a trip to 6 European countries?  My dream vacation is a tour of Europe which I did last year.

I went along as a parent chaperon on a European Excursion with my son's senior class.  We went to England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, and Germany.

I actually got to ride on the Euro Star Chunnel from London to Paris.

Six months before that trip I went with his French Club for a 10 day trip to France.

European Countries

I think the only thing that could have made that trip better would be to do the same trip with my entire family and maybe make it a month long trip.  Oh, and adding Italy and maybe a few more countries to the trip.

Oh, okay, I guess I have to have another dream trip!

Tell me about your dream vacation!

Which European countries would you like to visit?

Workouts

I had fantastic news!  I have a gym getting ready to open about 10 minutes from my house.  I can get there with only two stop signs between my house and the gym.  There are four roundabouts too, but you don't have to stop at those usually.

I found out a brand new LA Fitness is going to open by the end of October.   I stopped at an outdoor booth they have set up to start signing up members.  I am ready to sign up.

I have always loved working out in the gym.  I have had a membership at my current gym for over 12 years now.  I have gone a lot in the last year.  Since I live in a rural area it takes a good half hour without traffic to get to my current gym.  So that means I have an hour round trip to work out.

This new gym is right near all the other places I go routinely.  My supermarket is practically right next door.

I can't wait to get back into the gym on a routine basis.  I would be able to get in at least 3-4 times weekly.  I am so excited about ramping up my workouts!

Tomorrow is my weigh-in day.

Do you know what a Liebster Award is?  It is given to bloggers with fewer than 200 followers to their blog.  There are chosen by other another blogger who thinks the blog is great for some reason.

I was chosen for this award by JR Palmer at Attempting to be a Domestic Goddess.

When JR chose me I had less than 200 followers on Google Friend Connect.  I did have quite a few more on BlogLovin.  I decided to go ahead and do this last Liebster Award for fun since she nominated me.

  2. Answer the 10 questions the nominator has for you
  3. Nominate 5-11 bloggers with less than 200 followers

  8. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be? I really don't know if I would change anything about myself. It's taken me a long time to get to who I am, I don't want to mess that us.  Maybe I would have my boobs put back where they were when I was younger.

My Favorite Picture

An evening in Paris, sitting outside a little cafe in Artist's Square is where this picture was taken.  It was the most wonderful hot chocolate I have ever had.   We had gone a school trip with a group of seniors to Paris.  My friend, Malisha, and I had gone to Sacre Coeur and then walked through the shops at Montmarte.  We ended up in Artist's Square.

An artist begged my friend to draw her.  He told her she was Ooh-la-la.  She told him no, we didn't want to take the time.  We walked along the square and saw this little cafe with tables in front.  It was April and it was a cool evening.  The tables in front had heaters and blankets for your lap.

We sat outdoors in front of the cafe with red blankets across our laps and the heaters giving off warmth.  We said side by side so that we could watch the artists paint and the people stroll by.

When the waitress brought our hot chocolate we sipped the wondrous tasting chocolate and reveled in the feelings of being in the beautiful city of Paris.

Respect

Respect

I have received lots of advice in my life.  Some of it I have chosen to use and some I just put away in my mind for future reference. My parents gave me great advice over the years.  They gave it from love and experience.  They always wanted to keep me from any pain that they could.  I had true respect for my parents.

I think I usually took their advice, they knew what they were talking about.  My dad was 45 when I was born, he had lived a lot of life by then.  My mom was 36 and she had 8 children before and 1 after, so she knew so many things.  I'm not sure I always appreciated the advice at the time they gave it.  Those are some of the things that I filed away for future use.  There usually came a time when I realized the value of their advice.  My mom has been gone for almost 16 years now, and dad for a little over 38 years.

My parents told me "you have to give respect to get respect".  I believe that is so true.  I had a boss one time that called our group of employees together and told us he demanded respect.  When we all left the meeting we all said that we had no respect for him.  He chose to treat us all without respect and thought he could then demand that we respect him.  It just doesn't work that way.  You need to earn respect.

How do you feel, do you respect someone who treats you with no respect?  Do you do your best to respect others?

What advice have you been given?

The Definition of Advice

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Definition

The Definition of Advice

I decided to look up advice before I give out any advice.

Advice - guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative.

After reading this I am not so sure I have sufficient knowledge in anyone else's life to give them advice.  So, I will give advice to myself, since I am most knowledgeable about my own life.

So, the advice that I will give to myself is this:

Make sure you appreciate those people that you love and let them know how much you love them every day of their lives. You aren't guaranteed that they will always be there.

As I told you before, my first husband went to work as a police officer one night, and he died that night on the job.  Thank goodness, I told him I loved him before he left that day.

I probably could give myself some other advice, but who knows if I would listen.  Most people don't want to listen to advice from other people, but are we any better at listening to our own advice.

What is your definition of advice?

Do you feel equipped to give out advice?  Have you given out advice recently?  Do you take other people's advice?

Quotes about life

Quotes about life

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.   Buddha

I am supposed to write about the 3 Greatest Moments of My Life.  I have had so many great moments, I plan to have many more.  I think the greatest moment of my life is the present.

The most memorable moments in my life are the births of my four children, watching my three children graduate from college, my daughter graduate from medical school, seeing my daughter walk down the aisle in her wedding gown, and seeing my grandsons for the first time.

I look forward to seeing my youngest son graduate from college in a few years, and I hope to see more grandchildren.

I have had some memorable times in my life, viewing the city of Paris from the upper level of the Eiffel Tower, standing at the top of the Swiss Alps, walking the beaches in Hawaii, looking down into the Grand Canyon, and every moment I have spent in Paris.

Those are times I will remember forever, but they don't even compare with the special moments with my children.

Do you have some great moments in your life?  What made them great?   Are there any Quotes About Life that speak to you?

How to lose stomach fat

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

How to Lose Stomach Fat

When I started this blog I chose to name it Losing My Gut!  I was very upset with the size of my belly sticking out.  It had gotten to the point that it seemed to be the first thing that arrived anywhere.

I named this blot Losing My Gut hoping to lose weight and reduce the girth of my gut.  I have dieted before and haven't really reduced my stomach that much.

What I Found Out About How To Lose Stomach Fat

1.  High insulin causes stored belly fat. (Duh!  No wonder I was pre-diabetic!)

2.  Too little protein (Protein keeps insulin levels lower)

3.  High Cortisol (I'm still working on this one) which is caused by sleep deprivation and stress.

Diet To Lose Stomach Fat

I have been following The 100, which is mostly Paleo/Primal/Low Carb.  If you don't have the book it basically starts you out with very low carbs for about four weeks and then allows you to eat 100 sugar calories until you reach your goal and then increase your sugar calories to a maintainable level.

Sugar calories are any carbs multiplied by 4.  So that means you can eat 25 carbs daily.  My carbs are mostly fruits and vegetables.

Paleo is just eating real foods basically.  Real foods are things that are grown naturally and animals.

Here are foods you can eat:

  • Meat (local or grass-fed)
  • Eggs
  • Nuts
  • Fruits and Vegetables
  • Seeds
  • Healthy Fats ( Avocado, Cococut Oil, and Olive Oil)
  • Water (Lots of water)
  • Flour (Such as almond meal and coconut flour) I have been staying low on these until I get to my goal weight.
  • Cheese (This is more on the Primal line, but I can't give up all cheese)

My Results

This picture was taken a few weeks ago.  I have lost 32 pounds, but more importantly it has gone from my stomach.  I am seeing the beginnings of the body I had when I was younger.  I still have some stomach fat, but I seeing it decreasing each week.

How to Lose Stomach Fat Wrap-up

I hope you took a look at those blogs.  The great thing is myself and the others are all around 60.  Marc is the youngster in the group at 57.  I'm going to be 59 next month, and Gwen is already in her 60's.
If we can do this, it has to be easier for those of you that are younger.

Maybe it's time to do a Paleo/Primal Challenge!

Anyone interested?

Good Books To Read

Make sure to take a look at My Weight Loss Blog Directory!!!

Good Books to Read #the help #A Thousand Splendid Suns

Best Books

I love reading!  I have not been reading much lately that doesn't have to do with blogging.  I have reading blogs learning how to do blogging techniques.  I was reading how to use HTML yesterday.

I have also been reading so many blogs lately.  I used to read to go to sleep at night.  Lately, I have been so tired I just go straight to sleep.

Usually, my current book is my favorite.

Some of the books that I really enjoyed are:

The Help

It is the story of The Help in the south during the 1960's.   An aspiring author tells the story of the African-American maids working for the white families of the south during the decade of civil rights movements.

I really enjoyed the movie on this one too!  The book is better, of course, but they did a good job with the movie.

Sophie Scholl:  The Real Story of the Woman Who Defied Hitler

When I went to Munich, Germany last year I heard the story of a young college student who stood up against Hitler's regime. She and her brother and a few friends were executed for defying the Nazi Regime.  When I got back home I decided I needed to read her whole story.  I enjoyed reading about Sophie and her fight against the Nazis.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

The story is about the reality of life as a woman in a backward Muslim country.  Two women bond and survive during the war torn years in their country.

This one was written by Khaled Hosseini.  He also wrote Kite Runner, another favorite.  He has a new book out that I haven't read yet, but I have it on my list.

What are you reading?

I need some new books to read.  Come on, leave me some ideas in the comments!!
